Highways

Today I heard that there is a road that people drive on and goes stright from Chicago all the way to Santa Monica. Apparently they thought that there needs to be more direct routes from state to state so now the government is building the interstae highway system, it will go through every state and its not just one road but a bunch of long connecting roads. I cannot possibly imagine why someone would need to travel that far. I mean I have never even been of of my county let alone the state, so are there that many people who need the to travel from state to state often enough to have their own dedicated roads? My husband was telling me that he thinks the government is wasting a lot of their money on this interstate highway system, although secretly, I find it exciting to imagine myself driving on long winding roads that will take you anywhere and everywhere in the country. I guess its time to stop daydreaming and go back to real life but one can wish right?

World Fair

Oh My Goodness! I just heard the most exciting thing! Well, my employers were talking about this thing called the world fair and how they were planning on traveling to go see it. So of course I was curious to see what it was, so the next chance I got I asked them what it was. They told me its a fair with booths from around the world (60 different Nations!) and a place called tomorrow land and to get around the fair you must ride trolleys because its so large. Wouldn't it be a dream to get to go to this World Fair. Although it sounds quite expensive, I heard the average amount of money people spent there is just under $15. Thats enough money to  feed my family for weeks! I only wish I could have the luxury of going there! Well I must go back to work before I am caught goofing off. Until next time, Goodbye!

JP Morgan, Rockefeller, and Carnegie

These men are considered Robber Barons by a lot of people I know. They do take advantage of the poor and I can see how people think of them like that. I thonk that they are great men who have (mostly) worked up the ladder to be in the place that they are now. They give us jobs and keep us employed and stimulate the economy. They are not Robber Baron in my opinion but men who have done what they could for themselves and expect the same from others.

Strikes

Today I was in that market with my co-worker (the cook) and we were minding our own business when a mob of strikers comes into the market. I feel for them and highly believe in what they are doing, my older brother is actually a very active member in the union strikes. I just have to admitt, they are frightening wen you are suddenly surrounded by strikers. I hope that their words are heard by the big businesses and that they are treated better. Good Luck to You!

New Steel Plant

So new factories are everywhere. There is becoming what seems like an overwelming amount of them. I begin to worry about the polution they produce in the city air. A new steel plant was opened sometime ago (we don't live near that city so we only just heard about it now). I heard that these factories are willing to hire children and I am hoping that it won't come to that in my family. We are not poor but just scraping by. I can see that the new factory will be a good thing with people always needing jobs. The new faster way of creating steel should also provide a cheaper way to make new technologies. My husband told me that steel is a better metal and can be used a lot more now that the price is cheaper.

Husbands New Job!

My husband has gotten a new job! I am quite excited about this whole process. He was one of the lucky few to be hired by Henry Ford. In about 6 months (if he is lucky) he will be earning 5 dollars an hour. What an astrinomical amout! I cannot wait to be able to maybe indulge a little any buy a fine dinner to cook for him or some new fabric for the kids clothes. Although Mr.Ford has quite strict requirements for working at his factory. We have to make sure that we follow all the rules or we won't get the money. This will be a great undertaking but I am prepared for the challenge. We all have to change our way of life, no drinking for anyone and other things similar to that. Mr.Ford said we must lead "clean sober lives". My husband is getting to work with new machines and even an assembly line, he does complain about it being terribly boring. All I can tell him is that the money will be worth the hard montonous work that he has to bear. I really do hope this all works out for the best.

Government Stength

Nowadays people are so focused on the economy and they are not paying any attention to our government. I see my employers buying new technologies and getting everything new. All they care about now is having the newest thing. The government is not as prominent as it was before. I don't know ow they keep going, but they do. On a positive note, I finally got to sneak a ride in my employers new car! It was positively exciting, to have the wind all around you! Oh how I wish to do it again.

Reform Movement

I think women in this world are not treated as they should be. All we are is vessels for men to minipulate. I wish we could stand up for ourselves. I work just as hard as any man and then i go home and cook, clean, and care for the children. And yet I still am paid less and considered not as important as a man. I think I would like to join the movement for women's right to vote and become more independent. Life is short and if I can not live it the way I want to then what is the point?
